This is a translation for information. The French version (
terms-of-service.md) is the reference text and prevails in case of any discrepancy for users resident in France.

By downloading, installing or using the App, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the App.
These terms form a contract between you and the publisher. Apple is not a party to it (see Article 9).
Article 2What the App does#
BrickBack is a personal tool for tracking a collection of building bricks. It lets you:
- track building sets and their completion status;
- identify a part by photographing it, using a third-party image-recognition service (Article 5);
- see which set(s) in your collection an identified part is missing from, choose one, and update the corresponding progress;
- view the list of parts missing from a set in your collection;
- view one up-to-date “Pieces to buy” list across your sets, grouped by set, color or piece type, with pieces already in your loose bricks excluded if you choose; export this list to Rebrickable or a spreadsheet for free. BrickLink/Brick Owl export, printing, filtering by set and choosing the order require Pro; you import the exported file yourself;
- consult catalog information from public reference databases (names, numbers, colors, images);
- export your entire collection as a file, free of charge, and re-import it — on the free tier, restoring remains subject to the set and loose-piece limits of Article 8.1;
- open an external merchant page to obtain a part or a set (Article 10);
- receive set ideas computed locally from your collection and loose bricks;
- with Pro in France and Germany, compare new-set prices across shops, see “Sets for less right now” with each comparison explained, and receive price alerts when a wishlist set falls below your target price (Article 6).
Offline behavior. The reference catalog is downloaded on first launch. Once that first synchronization has happened, browsing your collection, your set contents and your missing-pieces lists works offline. A connection is required for identifying a piece (Article 5), refreshing the catalog and, with Pro, new-set prices and price alerts (Article 6.1).
2.1What the App does not do#
To avoid any ambiguity:
- It sells nothing. No purchase of parts or sets takes place inside the App. It prepares a list; you buy elsewhere, from a third-party merchant, on that merchant's terms.
- It does not value a collection or individual pieces and provides no financial advice. The only prices it displays are online shops' prices for new sets, recorded for the comparison in Article 6. It displays no individual-piece or used-set prices.
- It does not work offline for scanning: identifying a part requires an Internet connection (Article 5).
- It does not recognize several parts at once in a single photo: one photo, one part.
- It places no orders and compares no prices outside France and Germany.
- It sends only the price alerts you have activated, and offers neither a history screen nor scan statistics. Nor does it keep any trace of them: nothing from a scan is retained on your device, as set out in §11 of the privacy policy.
2.2Future changes#
Other functions may be added later. No function not described in these terms is contractually owed, and announcing a possible change constitutes neither a delivery commitment nor a date.
Article 3No affiliation#
LEGO® is a trademark of the LEGO Group of companies which does not sponsor, authorize or endorse this app.
BrickBack is not an official LEGO® product. It is independently developed without sponsorship, authorization or endorsement from the LEGO® Group, Rebrickable, Brickset, Brickognize, Affilizz or any marketplace or merchant named in the App. We may earn a commission on purchases made through affiliate links (Article 10). These links do not make BrickBack a store's representative or imply approval or recommendation.
References to LEGO® bricks and sets are made for strictly descriptive purposes, to designate building bricks compatible with LEGO® bricks, in accordance with the LEGO® Group's fair play policy. The App uses none of that group's logos, typefaces or official imagery.
Article 4No account#
The App requires no sign-up, no account, no password and no email address. Your collection data is stored on your device.
If you subscribe to Pro, your sets, progress, loose bricks, wishlist and collection organization are also synchronized in your own private iCloud database, under your Apple Account, so that they follow you from one device to another. We have no access to that database: we can neither read it, nor copy it, nor restore it. Nothing of the kind happens on the free tier. Details are in §§ 4.1 and 4.2 of the privacy policy.
Consequences you should be aware of:
- We do not back up your data. If your device is lost, stolen, reset or fails, or if you uninstall the App, your data is permanently lost — unless it is included in a device backup performed by Apple or, on Pro, in your private iCloud database: two mechanisms that depend on your Apple Account and not on us.
- With no account, we cannot restore a lost collection for you. The only safety net we provide is the export of your data (Article 2), free of charge and available at any time. We recommend using it: Pro's iCloud synchronization does not replace it.
Article 5Image recognition: what to know before scanning#
5.1Recognition happens online, at a third party#
The App contains no image-recognition model of any kind. Every photo taken to identify a part is transmitted over the Internet to the third-party service Brickognize, which performs the identification and returns a result. Without a connection, the function is unavailable.
Nothing is sent without your prior agreement. Before the first photo, the App sets out what that third party does and asks for your agreement; until it is given, no image is transmitted, and the rest of the App remains usable. That agreement can be withdrawn at any time from the settings.
5.2That third party's terms concern you directly#
The terms of use published by Brickognize (https://brickognize.com/terms-of-service/) grant it, over any content submitted to it, a worldwide, royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable, irrevocable and perpetual license, including for training machine-learning models.
What this means: the photo you send may be kept indefinitely and reused by that third party, and we cannot prevent it. We have no contract with it and no power to instruct it. The details are in §5 of the Privacy Policy, which you should read before your first scan.
You remain free not to use scanning: every other function of the App works without it.
5.3No warranty on results#
Identification is provided for information only. There is no guarantee that the suggested part is the right one, that the color is correct, or that any result will be returned at all. The third-party service is free, provided "as is", with no availability commitment, and may be modified, degraded, restricted or discontinued at any time without notice, including permanently.
You must verify every result before making a purchase decision. We are not liable for a purchase made on the strength of an incorrect identification.
Article 6Prices, catalog information and absence of warranty#
6.1New-set price comparisons#
Where and for whom. Pro provides online shops' offers for new sets through the affiliate network Affilizz, in France and Germany only. The app publishes “Sets for less right now” daily, with each card explaining its comparison. Your App Store account country and iPhone region must both be France or both be Germany. Elsewhere, or when they differ, these functions are not displayed.
What is compared. The item price of a new, in-stock set, excluding shipping, at the compared shops. Offers are sorted by price, lowest first. The list is not exhaustive: other shops may sell the same set. Shipping charges may be added; the shop confirms them before payment. The app promises no shipping amount.
What a comparison means. “Sets for less right now” compares a price with the official LEGO® store at the same price check, the next shop's price, or the lowest price BrickBack recorded for that set over the previous 30 days. These are comparisons, not discounts announced by a shop. Cards are ranked by relative price difference (the difference divided by the comparison price), largest first.
The recorded date is part of the information. Each price is shown with its recorded date. Prices may change and offers may become unavailable. The price that governs is the one displayed by the shop at the time of your order. The app does not guarantee a recorded price is still available when you read it.
Price alerts. If you activate them, BrickBack compares recorded prices with your wishlist target prices once a day and sends at most one notification per day when a set falls below your target price. An alert is information, not an offer: it may arrive after a price has changed again, or fail to arrive if prices could not be collected or iOS does not deliver the notification. Conditions and data used are described in §6.4 of the Privacy Policy.
Individual-piece prices are consulted at the merchant. The app displays no piece prices; it opens a third-party merchant's page where you can view them.
We are not the seller. A displayed price is neither a price we charge nor an offer or commitment from us.
Compared prices are the item prices supplied by shops, excluding shipping. Taxes already included in those prices are not deducted. Any additional shipping charges, currency conversion fees, taxes or customs duties depend on the purchase; check the shop's final total before paying.
No warranty is given as to:
- a shop's price, its accuracy or how up to date it is;
- the actual availability of a piece or set;
- the existence of a seller, the conformity of an item or a transaction's outcome;
- additional shipping charges, currency conversion fees, taxes or customs duties.
Prices can vary widely between shops, depending on country and timing.
6.2No financial information#
The prices and merchant pages the App shows serve one purpose: to help you complete a set or buy a new set you want.
Nothing the App displays constitutes a valuation, financial advice or a buy or sell recommendation, and it must not be used as such. The App does not value a collection or calculate gains. A shop's price for a new set is not the value of a set you own. Progress describes the state of your collection.
6.3Catalog data#
Set names, part numbers, colors and images come from third-party sources (notably Rebrickable and Brickset). They may contain errors, gaps or update delays for which we are not liable.
None of those sources owes us anything. They are used under their own terms, may be changed, restricted or discontinued at any time, and we warrant neither their availability, nor their continuation, nor the freshness of their data (Article 12.2).
Article 7Acceptable use#
You undertake to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes, and not to:
- circumvent, disable or tamper with the technical limits of the free tier;
- send the technical relay an abnormal, automated or limit-probing volume of requests;
- bulk-extract, republish or resell the catalog data displayed;
- decompile or disassemble the App, save where the law permits;
- deliberately photograph, when scanning, people, documents or content unrelated to a building part.
In the event of a serious breach, access to functions that depend on our services may be restricted. This does not affect data already present on your device.
Article 8Tiers, prices and subscription#
8.1Free tier#
The App is free to download and use. The free tier includes in particular:
| Function | Free tier |
|---|---|
| Part identification (scanning) | Unlimited — scanning is never metered or throttled |
| Matching an identified part to a set | Unlimited |
| Sets in total | 2 — counted once and for all (see below) |
| Missing-pieces list for a set in your collection | Included |
| “Pieces to buy” across your sets | Included, always up to date; group by set, color or piece type, and optionally exclude pieces already in your loose bricks |
| Rebrickable and spreadsheet (CSV) export of “Pieces to buy” | Included for this list only; the file matches the displayed selection |
| Entries from the old shopping list | Available to view, share and delete; export follows the “Pieces to buy” rules |
| Loose bricks | 30 different pieces, counted once and for all; removing them does not free a place |
| Wishlist text/image sharing and “I bought it” | Included; adding a bought set remains subject to the free set limit |
| Link to the merchant's page, where the price of a part is shown | Included, subject to Article 6 |
| Full data backup export | Included, without restriction; distinct from list exports |
| Restore from a full data backup | Included, within the free set and loose-piece limits: counted items can be restored without being counted again; new items beyond the limits are skipped |
How the 2 sets of the free tier are counted. They are counted once and for all, not simultaneously: what is counted is the distinct set number you have already added at least once. Removing a set from your collection therefore does not free up its place. In return, adding back a set that has already been counted costs nothing — you may remove it and take it back as often as you like, it is never counted twice. This count is kept in your iCloud space, so that a reinstall does not reset it; the privacy policy describes its exact contents in Article 4.3.
8.2Pro tier#
Pro removes the limit on the number of sets and loose pieces and unlocks the reserved functions presented in the App at purchase, including:
- BrickLink and Brick Owl export, printing, filtering by set and choosing the order for “Pieces to buy”. The list itself and its Rebrickable/spreadsheet exports are free;
- every set idea and filters by theme and year;
- wishlist management and collection organization (notes, “Built” status, tags, sorting and filters), and file import/export for the collection, loose bricks and wishlist;
- iCloud synchronization of your collection (Article 4);
- in France and Germany, new-set price comparisons, “Sets for less right now” and price alerts (Article 6.1).
Full data backup export is never behind the subscription: your collection stays recoverable whether or not you pay and after you stop paying. Restoring on the free plan follows the set and loose-piece limits in Article 8.1. This backup is distinct from list exports, which remain Pro except for “Pieces to buy”. Text/image wishlist sharing stays free.
| Plan | Price (incl. tax) | Nature |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | €6.99 | Auto-renewing subscription |
| Annual | €44.99 | Auto-renewing subscription |
| Lifetime | €79.99 | One-time purchase, no renewal |
Prices are shown inclusive of tax, in euros, for France. In other countries the applicable price is the one displayed by the App Store in your local currency and may differ, notably because of taxes and Apple's pricing tiers. The price that governs is the one displayed by the App Store at the time of your purchase.
The exact content of each tier is the one presented in the App at the time of subscription; it may change under the conditions of Article 13.
8.3Automatic renewal#
The monthly and annual plans renew automatically at the end of each period, for an identical term, unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. The charge is taken by Apple within the 24 hours preceding renewal.
The lifetime plan is a one-time purchase: it does not renew and involves no recurring charge. "Lifetime" means for the lifetime of the BrickBack product, and is not a guarantee of perpetual operation — see Article 12.
8.4Cancellation#
You may cancel at any time from your device settings: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period: you keep Pro access until then.
Uninstalling the App does not cancel the subscription.
8.5Payment, billing and refunds#
All payments are collected by Apple through the App Store. We process no payments, hold no bank details, and cannot issue any refund. All refund requests are handled by Apple under its own terms (reportaproblem.apple.com).
8.6Right of withdrawal#
The Pro tier is digital content supplied immediately. Under Article L.221-28, 13° of the French Consumer Code, by requesting immediate access to Pro features you consent to immediate performance of the contract and waive your fourteen-day right of withdrawal for the part already performed.
That waiver does not affect the remedies available through Apple, nor the statutory guarantees recalled in Article 12.4.
8.7Free trial#
If a free trial is offered, its duration and conditions are those shown in the App and on the App Store. Unless canceled before it ends, the trial converts into a paid subscription at the stated price.
Article 9App Store specific terms#
As required by Apple:
- These terms are entered into between you and the publisher only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content.
- The license granted to you is non-transferable and limited to use of the App on Apple devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Usage Rules.
- Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support services with respect to the App.
- In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple will have no other warranty obligation whatsoever.
- The publisher, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App: product liability, failure to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation.
- The publisher, not Apple, is responsible for the investigation and defense of any third-party claim that the App infringes that third party's intellectual property rights.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them directly against you.
Article 10Outbound links#
The App may offer to open a third-party merchant or catalog page. The link opens in your device's system browser, outside the App.
There are two kinds of links. Piece and building-instruction links are direct addresses without a partner identifier; no commission is paid to us. New-set offers (Article 6.1) are affiliate links through Affilizz, and a shop may pay BrickBack a commission on a purchase made through them. The app identifies these links where they appear. A commission changes neither the order of offers — a set's shop table is sorted by price; “Sets for less right now” by relative price difference, largest first — nor the price you pay. Affilizz's and the shop's recording of your visit is governed by their own policies, described in §9 of the Privacy Policy.
We exercise no control over those sites. Any order placed with a third party is concluded with that third party, on its terms: its contract, its returns policy, its warranty and its customer service apply. We are neither seller, nor intermediary, nor guarantor of that transaction, and we are not liable for the availability, conformity or delivery of the items ordered.
Article 11Intellectual property#
11.1The App#
The code, visual identity, original text, illustrations and layout of the App are protected by copyright and remain the property of the publisher. You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right of use for the duration of your use. No other right is transferred to you.
11.2Third-party data#
Catalog data comes from third-party sources, used in accordance with their respective terms and with the required attributions. Those terms may change or end, which may affect the corresponding functions (Article 12.2).
11.3Your data#
You remain the owner of the data you create in the App: sets, set contents, progress, loose bricks, wishlist and organization. We claim no rights over it. If you activate price alerts, we use only the wishlist set numbers and comparable target prices needed to provide those alerts (§6.4 of the Privacy Policy).
It is stored on your device. On Pro, your sets, progress, loose bricks, wishlist and organization are also synchronized in your own private iCloud database, under your Apple Account; and, subscribed or not, the numbers of the sets already counted by the free limit are kept in the key-value storage of your iCloud account (Article 8.1). We have access to neither. The only exception you activate is price alerts (Article 6.1): wishlist set numbers with comparable target prices, and those prices, are sent to our price and alert server and kept for the duration of your registration (§6.4 of the Privacy Policy).
⚠️ One important exception: the photos you send to the recognition service fall outside this principle, because of that third party's terms (Article 5.2).
11.4Trademarks#
LEGO® is a trademark of the LEGO Group of companies which does not sponsor, authorize or endorse this app.
Other trademarks cited belong to their respective owners. Their mention is descriptive and implies no partnership.
Article 12Availability, warranties and liability#
12.1Provided "as is"#
The App is provided as is. We endeavor to make it work correctly, without being able to guarantee that it will be free of errors, continuously available, or compatible with every configuration.
12.2Dependence on third-party services#
Several functions rely on external services, some of which are free, contract-free and without any service-level commitment. They may be modified, restricted, made chargeable or shut down at any time, without notice and without our being able to object. The affected function may then be degraded or removed. This does not constitute a breach on our part.
In particular, part identification depends on a single service for which no substitutable equivalent exists today (Article 5).
12.3Limitation of liability#
To the extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for:
- an incorrect or absent part identification;
- the inaccuracy of a price or of catalog information originating from a third party;
- a purchase or sale decision made on the strength of displayed information;
- the unavailability, modification or discontinuation of a third-party service;
- the loss of local data following a failure, loss, theft or reset of your device, or uninstallation of the App;
- the terms, practices or failures of a third-party merchant from which you order.
In any event, should we be held liable, that liability shall be limited to direct and foreseeable damage, and capped at the amounts you have actually paid us for the Pro tier during the twelve months preceding the triggering event.
12.4What can never be excluded#
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes:
- our liability for willful misconduct or gross negligence, or for personal injury;
- the statutory guarantee of conformity for digital content and services (Articles L.224-25-12 et seq. of the French Consumer Code);
- the statutory guarantee against hidden defects (Articles 1641 et seq. of the French Civil Code);
- any rights mandatorily granted to consumers by law.
If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in force.
Article 13Changes to the service and to these terms#
The App evolves. Functions may be added, changed or removed, notably when a third-party service they depend on ceases to be available.
If a substantial change adversely affects a function covered by your current subscription, you will be informed and may cancel under Article 8.4 and the rules applicable to digital content.
These terms may be amended. Substantial amendments will be notified in the App, with a new effective date. They do not apply retroactively to an already-paid subscription period. Continuing to use the App after they take effect constitutes acceptance.
Article 14Term and termination#
These terms apply for as long as you use the App. You may end them at any time by uninstalling it — remembering to cancel any subscription separately (Article 8.4).
We may suspend access to functions that depend on our services in the event of a serious breach of Article 7. The provisions on intellectual property, limitation of liability and governing law survive termination.
Article 15Personal data#
The processing of your data is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms an integral part of these terms. It sets out in particular what becomes of photos sent to the recognition service, what the technical relay receives — your IP address, and nothing else — and how to exercise your rights.
Article 16Languages#
These terms are drafted in French. This English version is provided for information; in the event of any discrepancy, the French version prevails for users resident in France.
Article 17Complaints and dispute resolution#
Please address any complaint first to the address in Article 1. We aim to respond within 30 days.
The app is distributed exclusively through the App Store, and there is no direct sales channel. The sales contract is therefore between you and Apple, which acts as the merchant of record; complaints about a purchase, a refund or billing fall under its own handling process.
For anything concerning the operation of the app itself, write to us at the address in Article 1.
The publisher has not designated a consumer mediator.
The European online dispute resolution platform has closed. Regulation (EU) 2024/3228 of 19 December 2024 repealed Regulation (EU) No 524/2013 with effect from 20 July 2025, and the obligation to display a link to that platform disappeared with it. These terms therefore carry no such link.
These remedies do not deprive you in any way of the right to bring court proceedings.
Article 18Governing law and jurisdiction#
These terms are governed by French law.
If you are a consumer, that choice cannot deprive you of the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of habitual residence in the European Union. You may bring proceedings, at your option, before the court of the place where you were resident when the contract was concluded or when the harmful event occurred, or before any court having jurisdiction under ordinary rules of civil procedure.
Article 19Contact#
